Why should Garth come back? Because he created the country music scene as we know it today. He brought the beautiful songs and stories of country music to millions of people that had never heard them before. But mainly, Garth needs to come back because nobody can sing a song the way that he does. Not only does he have a great voice and huge range, but every note comes from his heart. No matter what the song, from "The Dance" to "Friends in Low Places", you feel what he is singing about. He brings you into the song like no one else before or since.
Unfortunately, I did not get 'into' country music until after Garth Brooks retired, which is one of my greatest regrets. I had quit listening to music altogether for many years for numerous reasons. Then one day I happened across the CMT channel on TV and was amazed by the great music. This was nothing like the country music I had heard when I was young! It was very cool. The more I listened, the more I wanted to hear. The more artists I discovered, the more I researched to find others. Until I found Garth Brooks. He made all the others pale in comparison. I got every cd he ever made and listened to no one but him for at least a month. I finally found some video to watch of some of his concerts and was blown away.
I immediately started looking for tickets to current artist on tour and went to concert after concert. But nothing came close to what I had seen Garth do. Brad Paisley is a great guitar player, and I love his songs, but he just didn't get the audience going somehow. Trace Adkins is also a good singer with some great songs, but when he sings...they are just songs. You don't get the feeling he has ever felt what he is singing about. The same goes for Brooks and Dunn, Tim Mcgraw, Faith Hill, Dierks Bently, Billy Currington, and especially George Strait. They are just singers, not able to really draw you into the song the way that Garth does, especially in a live performance. Tim and Faith especially seemed to be just "getting through another concert", fulfilling their contract. I even gave them a second chance because I thought I must have just caught them on a bad night, but no, the second time was like the first...tired. Then I heard that Kenney Chesney put on the best concerts now, so I went to see him. Same thing - good songs, good voice, but it seemed he was just there for you to admire. He really didn't care if you were having a good time.
Now people are beginning to say that country is dying again, cd sales are way down, etc. So we need Garth to come back and revitalize the country scene. He needs to show all the current artists how to play a concert. He has so much FUN out there on that stage that the audience can't help but have fun too. He seems to be tickled to be there, not bored, or tired. He says he learned a lot from Chris Ledoux, who also loved to entertain the audience, and it really shows. Garth makes you feel like there is nowhere on earth he would rather be than right there singing his songs for you.
We, as country fans, really need a fresh infusion of Garth's energy and enthusiasm to get us excited about the music again. Come back Garth!!!

Wow, this is a great blog. My guess is you will get some hits from other Garth fans out there. I learned a lot and since that is what libraries do, provide information, I think you are right on the mark. Thanks for the great reading. Keep it up. I look forward to the next installment. Maybe your favorite CD?
